Field Trips and Driver Certification

One of the ways the School of Architecture & Environment sets itself apart is through our field trip program. Most of our studios and many of our classes take students on field trips to locations that offer inspiration, education, or context for the learning that will take place in the classroom.

To ensure field trips are safe for everyone involved, UO requires two sets of documents for everyone involved: Risk Waivers and Driver Certifications.

Risk Waivers

Before you may attend any off-campus activities such as field trips, all students, faculty, staff, and guests must sign a UO Risk Waiver before the trip begins.

  • Make sure the Activity Information is fully complete
  • Read and sign both sides of a hard copy of the Risk Waiver; this must be done in ink.
  • Return the Waiver to your professor before the activity begins – the sooner, the better.

Driver Certifications

There are also strict requirements for faculty, staff, volunteers, and students who drive any vehicle for any UO-related reason. If you drive on a field trip or on any required travel for class, read the UO Vehicle Policy and make sure you complete the required forms as early as possible, but no later than TWO working days before the event.

Driver Certification Form is required for all drivers.

    • On the form, Department is whatever is associated with the class (ARCH = Architecture, IARC = Interior Architecture, LA = Landscape Architecture, and HP = Historic Preservation).
    • Your instructor will let you know who to put down as the Supervisor.
    • This must be renewed every year, after September 30.

Personal Vehicle Use Form is required if you are driving your own vehicle.

    • This must be renewed every year, after September 30, or when your insurance information changes.

Reviewing the Van Training Video and completing the Van Training Quiz is required if you are driving a van – whether through the UO Motor Pool or through a rental agency.

    • Once completed, this is valid indefinitely.

Enjoy your field trip!
