SAE Graduate Admission Decision Process

Welcome, New Graduate Admits to the School of Architecture & Environment (SAE) in the College of Design!

By April 15

  1. Submit your decision to SAE (major department) via the SAE Admission Decision Form
  2. Submit your decision to the UO (Division of Graduate Studies)
  3. If you accept the offer of admission, pay the program deposit to reserve your spot (non-refundable)

1. SAE Admission Decision Form – submit your admission decision to the major department (SAE):

Please submit your admission decision to the major department you were offered admission to (accept the offer, decline the offer, or select a deferral request) even if you have not received the UO Graduate Studies’ offer of admission or if you have admission documents that are missing from UO Graduate Studies. This is a very quick, online form that is automatically sent to the SAE Admissions Coordinator.

If you choose to defer admission*, see additional instructions in the section below. If you are not deferring admission and your admission decision changes, you need to: (1) Submit a new SAE Admission Decision form to the department AND (2) revise your admission decision in the UO Graduate Studies Application Portal.

3. Pay the SAE Program Deposit (non-refundable):

If you submitted an accepted offer decision with the major department (SAE), it’s now time to reserve your spot in the class at the website below:

Defer Admission:

SAE Admitted Students can request to defer admission for one year.

Deferred students do NOT pay the SAE program deposit in the year of the deferral.

SAE tuition remission awards, scholarships, GE positions, or financial aid that might have been offered do NOT carry forward to future applications, however, applications submitted by the priority deadline for the next iteration will be reviewed for SAE graduate funding.

Deferred admits will be sent additional instructions from the SAE Admissions Coordinator after the SAE deferral request has been received and processed.

Two SAE Graduate Program Admission Offers:

Students who are offered admission to two SAE graduate programs need to submit a ‘Decline Offer’ decision for one SAE program in order to submit an ‘accept offer’ decision for the other SAE program. The UO Division of Graduate Studies will not process the 2 graduate admission applications further until these decisions have been submitted to both the major department (SAE) with the SAE Admission Decision Form and in the UO Graduate Studies Application Portal. Students interested in concurrent majors need to meet with the academic advisors in both majors after matriculating.

UO Division of Graduate Studies Admission Approval Process:

The UO Division of Graduate Studies will review your UO graduate studies application to confirm that you meet the University of Oregon minimum requirements for admission, as outlined here, and will finalize your offer of admission. If the UO is not missing any of the required UO admission documents, you can expect to access your official offer of admission as well as your UO ID and PAC number from the Division of Graduate Studies graduate application portal 4-8 weeks after the departmental admission offer has been made.

Applicants will not be fully admitted to the University of Oregon until all of the required UO Graduate Studies’ application components have been received, reviewed, and approved by the UO Division of Graduate Studies.

International Students & Visa Items: After you have been formally admitted to your program by the UO Division of Graduate Studies as noted above, International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) will reach out to you about the next steps to secure your visa. For more information, see the Financial Documentation for International Graduate Students’ website.

SAE & UO Graduate Funding Options:

Departmental graduate funding for incoming students does not require a separate application but is occasionally recommended by the review committee with the approval of the department head. If you are offered an SAE merit scholarship, you will receive an email from SAE Finance soon after the departmental admission notifications have been sent. If other scholarship offers are declined, the applicant pool will be reviewed again for new scholarship offers. SAE Graduate Funding is significantly less available for those who apply to the late admissions cycle than for those who apply to the regular admissions cycle.

Advising and Registration websites (SAE) – Review by April 30

Your UO ID and PAC number, which are needed to claim your DUCK ID and register for classes, were included in the official email of admission approval from the UO Division of Graduate Studies.

The SAE Student Services managers for your campus will reach out to you directly via email in May to invite you to the SAE online advising and registration orientation series that will guide you through your final steps to becoming a Duck. Questions about an orientation for your program, term start dates, claiming your Duck ID, academic advising, registration, transfer evaluations, academic calendars, hardware and software requirements, housing resources, etc., that are not already covered at the websites below will be addressed in the advising and registration series.

If you have urgent questions in the meantime, you may contact the SAE Student Services Manager for your campus location as noted below*:

*MS and PhD students should reach out to both their major advisor and the student services manager for their campus.
